Allergy Baby

Lachie had an allergic reaction about three weeks ago. His little face and ear swelled up and he got hives and tummy cramps. It was quite scary to see and the Dr was called out at night. I had given him a Milk Arrowroot Biscuit (but the allergist thinks it wasn't necessarily the biscuit it was traces of a Butternut Snap biscuit (peanut) on his milk arrowroot which caused it.

We took him to a specialist and she did the skin prick test and it came up as allergic to Eggs, Peanuts, milk, soy, potato and wheat! I felt quite down and overwhelmed by it when I found out and really just feeling so sorry for him and wondering how we are going to adjust as a family.

We went back to the allergist last week to get the confirmation from his blood test results and they confirmed it all (not allowed to give him any nuts even though it's only peanut he's allergic to ?!?). The allergist gave me a list of all the foods he CAN eat! He's going to be very healthy with lots of fruit and veg that's for sure.

There is a good chance that by about 5 or 6 he'll grow out of all but the peanuts.

The allergist warned us about when he starts crawling and especially at parties and events where there are other kids and unsafe food around. She said it would be good to bring a playpen or port-a-cot to put him and and she also suggested I get a T-Shirt made that says 'I have allergies. Do not feed me'. I was waiting for her to laugh like it was a joke but she didn't.

So I googled Allergy T-Shirt and look what I found! hehehehe.

Maybe it is a good idea....?!?!?!

Does anyone else have food allergies or allergy kids? How has your family adjusted?

All I can say is thank the Lord for Google... recipes, advice etc all over the net.

So that's what's been going on in our little family at the moment.

Have a great day,
Janette xx

Cousins

We had a full house this weekend as we had our niece and two nephews for a sleepover.

It was lots of fun and I thought I'd share a pic of Will and his cousin (almost 2yrs older than him) with their matching shirts on. Will LOVES his cousins :)

I hope you had a great weekend too xx

Our anniversary in the moutains

Yesterday was our 7yr wedding anniversary. Seven years! I know, can you believe it!

So a few weeks ago we booked a night away in the Blue Mountains and Mum and Dad kindly offered to look after Will for us.

Here we are at Evan's Lookout, it got all misty just as we arrived and was so pretty.

Here is the lobby of the hotel we stayed at. It was an old guest house in Katoomba. The rooms weren't anything amazing but the building itself was very pretty and the lobby and dining room were beautiful.

We also snuck into the ballroom and practised our waltzing skills in the big empty room
(wish I could have got a pic of it - quite funny)

Another corner of the lobby.

During the day we went shopping at Leura, coffees, cakes, antique shops, lookouts etc.

You know how you've seen 50million photos of the three sisters and the Blue Mts and been there dozens of times but then when you're there again it's just breath taking all over again.

(You never can line up photos right when you're holding the camera out in front of you!) :)

So yeah, we had a wonderful time!!! It was our first time going away without William, I kept thinking about him and missing him but it was nice to have time just the two of us.

How was your weekend? What did you get up to?

Have a great day,

The obsession continues

Does Christmas feel like a distant memory already?
It does for me, but obviously not for my little man...
The big red jolly fellow must have made quite an impression as his Santa obsession is continuing way into February. And no, I didn't make a big deal about Santa over Christmas, Will just really took to him :)

Often when he wakes the first thing he'll say is 'SANTA!'... 'Where?' and put his little hands up in a 'where?' question.

So we point out on the map that Santa has gone back home to the north pole and now every time he sees his map or any map it's 'Santa!', 'Santa!', 'Santa'!!!

He spotted his Christmas outfit in his cupboard the other day and now it gets put on at least once a day.

Santa lives in Greenland, close enough!

(And if you'd like a canvas world map like William's one then visit my shop www.MySweetPrints.com.au and you can order one of your very own so you can point out where Santa lives too).

So I wonder how long the Santa obsession will continue for?

Did your kids, or did you have a Santa obsession at any stage?

Have a great day everyone,

Our Australia Day

We had a fantastic Australia Day yesterday as we attended the Citizenship Ceremony for D&S, Glen's Brother and his family. It was held at Wahroonga Park by the rotunda and even though it started at 8.30am it got pretty hot by the end of it!

They had the Rotary Band, Scouts, Don Burke did a speech as did Barry O'Farrell (or Bazza O'Fazza as I call him) it was such a nice ceremony and I felt so proud, no only for my Country but for D&S and the kids.

Afterwards we had a lovely picnic under the big fig trees and the kids ran around playing in the park. We had to leave early though for Will to have his sleep.

So then in the afternoon we went back to D&S's house (made ourselves at home in their swimming pool as they weren't back from the park yet). And managed to cool right down.

Here is my Little Aussie getting ready to jump in the pool, look at those cute little leggies!

When D&S and kids got home they joined us in the pool and we had so much fun, eating dip and chips and left overs from the picnic as well as a celebratory bottle of Moet. D blew up a big camping mattress and floated it in the pool, it was so cute seeing all the cousins rumbling around on top of it!

We only got home after 7pm so Will went straight to sleep in his clothes!
Here is the Little Aussie this morning doing what he loves most at the moment.
Walking in Mummy and Daddy's shoes!

How was your Australia Day?

Have a great Thursday and thanks SO much for all your laundry feedback it was great to read all the suggestions and I'm looking forward to getting into it!

My exciting news

Yay, blogger seems to be back up and running as normal now and I didn't loose all your lovely comments - phew!

So now I can share my exciting news - exciting to us, maybe just entertaining for you....

WILLIAM TOOK HIS FIRST STEPS LAST NIGHT!!!

It was amazing. We were dancing in the kitchen to the radio while I was getting dinner ready. And he was being so cute with his bouncing/dancing I thought I'd get the video camera out to capture it, and managed to capture his first ever steps in the process!!!

You can watch the video for yourself and see (and hear my screeeetches and squeals and screams of delight - embarrassing).

I'm so proud of my gorgeous little bub and Glen got home about 10mins later and got to see some walking too!

I think Will doesn't realise that this is now meant to be his new form of transport as he's still crawling around - I think he thinks that walking is a new dance move :) But he'll be off and running soon I'm sure - ek!

Anyway, I'm still on a big high from it so I hope you have a lovely, happy day too!

Hula Hoops & Skipping Ropes

I spent a very energetic afternoon yesterday, playing with my niece and two nephews.

They have been trying to learn how to Hula Hoop and although I wasn't bad back in the day, boy oh boy was it hard work. After much practice I could keep the hula hoop going for about 7 turns but then... down it rolled.

So then we played with the skipping rope. VERY fun, I wasn't brave enough to run into the twirling rope, but managed to do a few rounds of 'Teddy bear, Teddy bear, turn around....'

Then we set up an obstacle course in the front yard using the hoops, balls, chairs etc and timed ourselves jumping over, crawling through, limboing under. It was so much fun.

It's nice to re-live your childhood games for a few hours. I'm looking forward to when William's old enough to play along with his cousins too.

I hope you're having a great weekend too.
Take care,

Look who's Walking!!!!!

Big excitement here tonight, as Will has taken his first unassisted steps with the walker wagon!

I'm sorry, this is probably a boring post for you all... but I'm so excited and proud, I just had to share!

Check out that look of concentration!

Off he goes....

Once he became confident he couldn't stop smiling, laughing and saying 'a'Dadda' (I'm so glad Glen was home in time to see it)!

A very proud Mum signing off for tonight!

On this day 6 years ago....

...I married my wonderful husband, who is now also the most wonderful father in the world too. And we have had six fantastic years of marriage and I look forward to MANY MANY more my darling!

We were married at Chatswood Sth Uniting Church - the same church that my parents were married and also where I was a flowergirl for my aunty's wedding. My Grandfather who was a Uniting Church minister married us which was soooo special. Our reception was at the stunning Manly Golf Club. We honeymooned on Tioman Island which is off Malaysia for a week then went on to South Africa where we had a mini wedding celebration at a resort in the Drakensberg Mountains and stopped back in KL on the way home for some shopping.

We have had a great day today celebrating but I will post about it on Monday :)

I hope you have a great weekend,

Wish you were here...

I thought I'd send you all a virtual postcard, as this is how we spent our morning today...
At the very beautiful, Little Manly Cove. It was perfect beach going weather today not too hot, but warm enough for a dip. William had a wonderful time splashing in the water and crawling towards the little mini waves until we had to grab him out before he got a mouthful of salt water.

Little Manly Cove is a great kids beach as it is netted off and being on the harbour side there are no big ferocious waves. There is also a little cafe which is very popular for lunch or for your takeaway coffee to sip on the sand.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend,

On sale at Target

This is what you do when you're restless baby is sick of shopping, stick him in with the googly balls at Target!

Isn't he the CUTEST!!! (non-biased mum talking of course). I love how his cheeks look so chubby, his little toes are sticking up and his hair is all boofy from waking up from a nap in the pram.

AND, he's got his first tooth coming through (bottom right) and one more about to break through (top right). He's taking it very well. Brave little bubba!

Sorry, just had to share!
