We were inspired by our new Rock On print design to put together a moodboard for a modern nursery that has a retro twist, just like the print. We have used bold blocks of colour, angular, geometric furniture, and a touch of whimsey. The details are below.

Cushions are perhaps, one of the most versatile elements in the home when it comes to decorating. The Little Traveller's Bedroom

What child doesn't dream of exploring the world and embarking on great adventures?

Inspiration: Gorgeous Grey Nursery

While wandering the wonderful world of the web, I stumbled across this gorgeous nursery. It is so simple, so chic and so stylish that I just knew it had to be designed by a Scandinavian, and I was right! They just have such style about them those northerly folk - don't you think!?

The trend, in recent years, of treating a nursery with sophistication and flair gets a big thumbs up from us at My Sweet Prints. This stunning example just goes to show that even without colour and fluff a nursery can be cozy, welcoming and calming - just what you want when that little one arrives!

European Inspired Boy's Room for Will

Good morning!
Now that baby B is well and truly on the way we're starting to think about turning the study into Will's new big boy bedroom which we plan to do over Christmas.

So I've created a little moodboard to show you. I'm going to buy a white timber single bed and I've already bought the Esprit Star Galaxy  single bed set and he's already got the big Personalised Canvas World Map. Have I shown you the newest print in my range? It's a french inspired print that reads 'Our Little Man' with a cute little moustache. So I'll do one of them for his room.

The solder skittle set and hot air balloon are both from my lovely stockist Ministyle (I'm yet to order).
And the Jnr Replica Eames DSW chair and the red replica Componibili side table I will get from Matt Blatt.

I think it creates a European, little World Traveler feel.

I think it's a good toddler - young boy style room don't you think?

I'll probably add little extras like a retro clock and I've got to do up the cabinet which will stay in his room.

I'm quite excited about it!

Next up I have to decide what/how much of Will's current room I'll change for the new bubby boy.

Kids Storage

I don't know about you but toys and their storage are constantly issues in our house (and we've only got 1 child!).

So today I thought I'd show you some very cool storage ideas...

 

I like these labelled basket drawers, the freezer style basket for the softies and the book stand.

How pretty is this double room! Love the colour of the old style dresser and the under bed baskets look great! Isn't that rug gorgeous!

Wow, I wish I had this study for myself let alone for kids! The two separate 'named' shelving areas, the see through chairs and the book cases are all great.

This is tres chic is it not? Love the storage drawers and the matching stools with the names on it.

Here is what I bought yesterday from Ikea to help with our toy storage issues...

 

It is the Ikea KUSINER box with compartments for $9.95.

I bought two of them and they sit stacked on top of each other and hold all of the little fiddly toys so nicely!

Design a Room: Purple modern/tribal nursery

I had a bit of fun this morning designing a room using some of my fellow bloggers shops and using my Keep Quite the Baby's Sleeping print as inspiration.

I think this would make a very cool nursery for a little one, the type of room that could take you from baby to little girl and beyond. I love the modern tribal feel to it and I've always been a fan of purple.

2 kids rooms - via a happy customer

Do you want to see two gorgeous children's rooms....?

Well a very lovely customer Yvette was kind enough to send me pics of the bedrooms of her son Archer (who is the same age as Will) and her eight year old daughter Olivia. I think they are both just gorgeous!

Take a look...

There is the Morning Bus Roll Poster sitting on top of the tall boy in Archer's room. I love the wooden 'Archer' next to it.

Don't all the shades of blue come together so nicely?!?

And here is daughter Olivia's bedroom with black, white and pink shades.

There is Olivia's Customised Eye Chart above her bed.
I love the pinks and red in her pillows and blanket.

I would have died for a dolls house like that when I was a girl!

Don't you love the black, white and pink - a great colour scheme for a girl in her 'tweens'.
I like the feature of the pink line on the ceiling above the architraves and Yvette made the tissue paper pom poms to hang from Olivia's ceiling.

William's Nursery Tour

Today I thought I'd take you on a little tour of William's Nursery.

Here's a little background:

• I decided to decorate Will's nursery with an African Animal/Safari theme because his Daddy is South African so I thought it would be nice to have that connection.
• I set myself the challenge that I didn't want to spend too much on decorating his room and I wanted to make as much of the decor as possible myself.
• I found 'Alexander Henry - Juicy Jungle' fabric which I fell in love with instantly. Not only because it fitted the theme but because it was cute enough to suit a baby's room to a more grown up child. So I ordered the fabric in both the ivory and the blue background from the US.
• We were lucky enough to be given the cot from my sister-in-law which my nephew had recently grown out of, and the feeding chair which rocks and swivels was my mum's which she used to feed my sister and I! The bookcase and tall boy we already had. The Change table is a funny story I will get to later.

It was my first time making a quilt so I was quite nervous but I'm happy with the way it turned out. The white teddy is 'Woofie', Will's favourite teddy that he cuddles to sleep every night.

We painted the one wall in a light blue so that the cot and three pictures would stand out.

To make the artworks I scanned in the fabric and played around with it in Photoshop to make up little scenes, putting them on a blue background to match the wall behind.

White wicker toy box I bought for around $30.

I made the blue curtains to hang in front of our existing sheer curtains and bought the nappy holder from Spotlight for $3!! and appliqued the lion on.

Will's African Animals on top of the Tall Boy which I had planned to paint white but I don't know if I can be bothered now. What do you think? Leave it or paint it?

The wall sticker was $39 and the white wicker laundry hamper was $29 I used the blue fabric to make a liner for it and it matches the toy box. The change mat was from my Sister-in-law.

I couldn't find a change table that I liked and that wasn't quite a few hundred so when I saw a little white cupboard on the side of the road which had been put out for council clean up I asked my Dad and hubby to go collect it for me. G (hubby) thought I was a bit crazy when I told him it was going to be our change table but then I explained that I planned to get sheets of melamine cut to size and screw them onto the existing cupboard and attach a top which I would also get cut to size. I went to Bunnings and got all the bits and pieces for it and I was working on it but found it quite hard getting down and into the cupboard to screw the bits together with my big pregnant tummy getting in the way, anyway with William's early arrival my Dad had to come and finish it for me while I was in hospital, just in time for Will's big home coming! It's not that pretty but it's sooooo practical. You can see on the shelf where the original cupboard came up to.

The lamp on the book case was a lamp we'd had for years which I recovered in the Alexander Henry fabric.

So I think I spent about $250 on the nursery all up! But you know it wasn't so much about the money, I just felt it would be so special for my little darling bubby to know that his Mummy made it all especially for him!

Craft Project: Bunting

I made bunting for William's room with the left over Alexander Henry 'Juicy Jungle' fabric and some navy and white striped fabric I had left over from sewing Will's nursery decor.

The photos aren't great sorry but you get the picture. I wanted something to jazz up that wall and the bunting sits nicely above the sliding door (we have sliding doors to the bedrooms which I guess the previous owners put in as a space saver).

To make the bunting I just cut the fabric into triangles of the same size and hand stitched them onto thin white ribbon, spaced about 4cm apart.

I think it looks pretty cute and looks nice sitting above Will's Eye Chart print.

There will be more pictures of his nursery to come soon, so you can see how the fabric ties into his curtains, cushions, blanket and wall art.


I also wanted to say a big thanks to Babyology for posting about My Sweet Prints on their fantastic website today. Babyology was a finalist in the 2009 Homies awards in the Kids at Home category so it was very exciting to wake up and see their lovely post!
