Inspiration: Gorgeous Grey Nursery

While wandering the wonderful world of the web, I stumbled across this gorgeous nursery. It is so simple, so chic and so stylish that I just knew it had to be designed by a Scandinavian, and I was right! They just have such style about them those northerly folk - don't you think!?

The trend, in recent years, of treating a nursery with sophistication and flair gets a big thumbs up from us at My Sweet Prints. This stunning example just goes to show that even without colour and fluff a nursery can be cozy, welcoming and calming - just what you want when that little one arrives!

European Inspired Boy's Room for Will

Good morning!
Now that baby B is well and truly on the way we're starting to think about turning the study into Will's new big boy bedroom which we plan to do over Christmas.

So I've created a little moodboard to show you. I'm going to buy a white timber single bed and I've already bought the Esprit Star Galaxy  single bed set and he's already got the big Personalised Canvas World Map. Have I shown you the newest print in my range? It's a french inspired print that reads 'Our Little Man' with a cute little moustache. So I'll do one of them for his room.

The solder skittle set and hot air balloon are both from my lovely stockist Ministyle (I'm yet to order).
And the Jnr Replica Eames DSW chair and the red replica Componibili side table I will get from Matt Blatt.

I think it creates a European, little World Traveler feel.
What do you think? Do you like it?
I think it's a good toddler - young boy style room don't you think?

I'll probably add little extras like a retro clock and I've got to do up the cabinet which will stay in his room.

I'm quite excited about it!

Next up I have to decide what/how much of Will's current room I'll change for the new bubby boy.

I love the look of pattern backed shelving! Whether it be wallpaper or fabric behind a bookcase and I think I have just the item for this makeover....

It lives in the study and was my Grandpa's old book shelf. We use it to store so much but the study will become Will's room early next year so I'm thinking of ideas to pretty it up. What do you think about painting it white then putting a pattern behind the shelves which would match his room colour? Something very similar to the above picture.

As you can see it is literally over flowing with books and things at the moment but I picture the shelves with a few of Will's favourite books and toys displayed nicely. What do you think? Would I regret painting it?

Kitchen Inspiration

I thought I'd show you some of the kitchens I have in my pinterest homes and interiors board that I find soooooooo droolworthy :)


I really like the grey tiles as a splash back and their contrast against the white cupboards and counter top. And it ties in nicely with the more industrial stainless steal island bench.

Again, the contrast of this grey in the cupboards 'makes' this otherwise all white kitchen, and brings out the grey flecks in the marble counter tops.

It feels a bit poky but I guess it's just part of the kitchen and I really like the idea of a desk area in the kitchen for kids to do homework. And the blue ceiling is a really cool touch.

Design a Room: Purple modern/tribal nursery

I had a bit of fun this morning designing a room using some of my fellow bloggers shops and using my Keep Quite the Baby's Sleeping print as inspiration.

I think this would make a very cool nursery for a little one, the type of room that could take you from baby to little girl and beyond. I love the modern tribal feel to it and I've always been a fan of purple.

Ideas: Hanging pictures

I love checking out the ways that people display their photos/prints/artworks.
You can get so much inspiration. Take a look at some goodies I've found...

Love the two frames one above the other and the way it ties into the black chest and that gorgeous wallpaper!
I'm a huge fan of floating shelves and I really like the way that this wall combines frames sitting on the shelves as well as hanging around them.


Very sweet for a nursery, I've seen some vintage alphabet cards framed this way - so cute!


You could always just go crazy on one wall with the same theme.


Or subtle and sophisticated, white frames on a grey wall, very chic.

But I think I like this one the best - my sort of colours and I love the way that the frames really add height to the room.

Laundry Ideas and help please

I would love to give our laundry a mini makeover and I'd love some ideas or feedback from you if you wouldn't mind.

Here are some of the laundry rooms in my inspiration file (now I know this is not possible until/when /if we rebuild) but this is to give you some eye candy and inspiration.

Gorgeous! And I love the table

I like the idea of the ironing board and shelving hung like that.

I think this is the other side of the laundry in the first photo. How pretty do the jars etc look!

This one is a laundry/craft room which would be great when we 'loose' the study to a 3rd bedroom one day.

Nice to have a featuring light and the cupboards and storage are great.

But here is my FAVOURITE laundry ever...

It's the laundry of my lovely blog friend Rachael of A Room for Everyone and don't you just drool!?!

Look at all the clever storage on the right hand side too - you're a decorating/renovating expert Rachael!

Now here is our laundry, we don't have too much to work with and the walls are asbestos so I don't really want to mess around too much.

But I'm thinking of painting the faux wood panelling either white or Dulux Hogs Bristle Half.
Then making a little roman blind to match the kitchen one for the window.
And then put a white shelf with baskets above the sink.
I think I'd also put new tap cover thingies on, you know the ones that are/look like chrome, instead of the off white plastic ones.

I've recently started hanging my apron on a hook behind the door and I'd maybe think of putting some more hooks on the wall behind the door, maybe mount the clothes drying rack behind it? and maybe a shelf or two above the door for more storage.
And see the massive hot water heater? I'm thinking of building a timber screen type of thing to enclose it so it doesn't look so messy. And putting a more attractive hook contraption up (or is there a way you can think of hiding the dustpan and mops?

Oh and that's our recycle bin, that would have to stay.

So what do you think? Any good ideas you can give me? I don't want to spend much money on the makeover but just make the space more attractive and efficient in terms of storage etc.

Christmas Decorating Part 3

Here is the last of my Christmas decorating (well before the actual day that is)...

I decided to give our candlelier on the deck a bit of a Christmas makeover and it will be the centrepiece of our long Christmas table as we have our Christmas lunch with the family on the deck.

Here it is at night, with the bauble bling glistening :)


And a close up during the day... I attached the baubles using beading wire so they wont get tangled. I had so much fun decorating it!!!
And you know, I nearly enrolled in a visual merchandising course after school (basically to become the person who puts together the window displays/installations) and maybe I should have as I enjoyed this so much.


And the piece de resistance is my crochet star garland hanging over the french doors leading out to the deck. I bought it from the super lovely Tina from Rubies Place's etsy shop. Isn't it beautiful and it matches our curtains so well.


I don't think I'm going to take it down after Christmas, I think I'll leave it up for a while because it's so pretty.
Today is my last day of work as tonight the My Sweet Prints shops will be 'closed' well not closed, you can still place orders in my shops but I wont be sending out orders till Monday the 10th January onwards. Ahhhhh... it will be so nice to have a little break and not worry about printing, posting, spread sheeting etc for just a while.
