White Walls...

Over the weekend my sister-in-law and I were analysing white paint colours for her new house.

I love white as you know, but there is one way to get yourself confused in 10 seconds flat and that's analysing white paint swatches.

Anyway, here are some pics of rooms with white walls which I love, aren't they great!?!?!

I love those colours, and that framed fabric artwork is gorgeous isn't it!!!

What a soothing room, I love all the white/cream tones in this room.

Very sophisticated..

Black, white and blue, you can never go wrong with that combo.

Ok so this one isn't white but it looks like the same blue I have in my home and still love.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

And on another note, here are the bunny cupcakes I decorated for Billy's 1st birthday party.

I have to admit that I ran out of time on Saturday to bake so I just cheated and bought the cupcakes which had little blue and pink flowers on top, took the flowers off carefully with a toothpick then stuck the lollies on . I put green food colouring through dessicated coconut to be grass and then placed the flowers and mini M&Ms to look like a flowering field.
The kids loved them.

And here is the birthday boy, 'Billy Bun-bun Baker', sorry not a great photo...

How was your weekend and do you have any white paint recommendations for me???

Have a lovely day,

Velvet

What's your thoughts on velvet?

My initial thoughts on velvet are the memories of my parents brown velvet lounge suit in the good lounge room from when I was a little kid. I'm sure big brown velvet lounges were HOT STUFF in the late 1970's early 80's but it's not a great visual to have stuck in your head whenever you hear the word 'velvet'.

I've seen some velvet lately used in interiors and it's turning me around.
Check out these beautiful rooms...

How plush does that velvet lounge look and the colour is amazing! (love the pops of pink and the wall colour, and the detail on the fireplace too).

Again, the velvet makes this grey colour look incredible, look at the way it picks up the light.
The black butterflies above the bed are cool, but they would scare me like a swarm of insects were going to attack me in my sleep :)

That blue of the bench is beautiful and I love the way it links to the colour of the chandelier too, really looks great with the pink and white.

Very soft and feminine little skirted stool. It also softens the cold, stark, shininess of the mirrored dresser table.

So what do you think? Have I reprogrammed your brain from any bad velvet memories too?

Have a great Tuesday everyone,

21st century Victorian

I was reading the March 2010 issue of Living Etc yesterday. Take a look at the cover of this gorgeous mag. I don't usually like tonnes of colour but this cover and it's related article really apealled to me.

The article was called '21st Century Victorian' and they put together a great fusion of Modern and Vintage (a look I love).

Check out some more rooms which have that 21st Century Victorian look.

Hmmm... some nice bedroom makeover inspiration. (Yes that bedroom makeover I've been procrastinating about).

What do you think? Do you like this look or do you find it too bold and ornate?

Have a great Tuesday.

My crash course in cake decorating

Here is the cake so far. My friend Oli is making two carrot cakes and tomorrow she is coming over and we are icing the two layers and putting them together and decorating the cake in the safari theme. Here are the little icing figures I've made so far. I have also made lots of leaves big and small like the ones in the bottom photo.

I've never done cake decorating before but it's really quite easy. You have these thick icing colourings which you mix into the white icing and then it's just like playdough!

It's been fun making the little icing characters. We've got a lot to get through tomorrow though... Mum and Dad are coming over to look after Will while Oli and I finish the cake.

Anway, back to it, I think I'll make a Rhino now :)
Have a great evening everyone.
