Outdoor Curtains

What do you think about outdoor/patio curtains?

I think they look pretty.... and we're currently after something to keep the wind and rain out of our back deck area. Although clear pvc cafe blinds are most effective I just think they look a bit cheap and plastic-y and for the size of our deck would be quite expensive. So what do you think about outdoor curtains using a thick outdoor mildew resistant material that I can draw across when it's cold, rainy and windy???

Do you have any other ideas for me??? Please???

Have a great evening,

  1. Sorry, no fresh ideas. The curtains look lovely, but I would feel claustrophobic if I couldn't see out of them. I totally get your concerns with the clear plastic but they are fairly practical, I think. I will be interested to see what others come up with.

  2. Hi Janette, I actually love the idea of outdoor drapes and the gorgeous Kristin at My Uncommon Slice Of Suburbia made some for her outdoor area from painters tarps, they look great and would be really cheap. Here is the link, let me know what you think? Big hugs ~ Tina xx

  3. I've used muslin for outdoor curtains before. It looks beautiful, and if it gets too grubby it's really inexpensive to replace. But outdoor fabric is a great option if you want something durable and mould-resistant. Maybe a combination of muslin on the inside, and pvc blinds behind if you need to keep the rain out? K xx

  4. Please, please not the PVC...you're far too chic for that! I have cane blinds on my pergola that I just roll up when I don't need them or when it gets too windy for them. I know that Bunnings have some very stylish blinds in a waterproof fabric that looks really good, although they cost a bit. A friend has some on a small area of her verandah that's covered in. Worth investigating?

  5. Outdoor curtains look great but only a specific styles of houses. Lucky for you, I think they would look fantastico on your deck. I think PVC = cheap & tacky! Depending on your existing outdoor furniture, depends on the look you want to achieve. ie pretty & flowing (which probably won't keep out the wind & rain) or fabric that is a little more heavier which you only draw across when needed. Hope this helps. Let me know what you decide... licks illy the cuddly x

  6. The three pictures you've posted look gorgeous!! I especially love that first one :) Whatever you go for, make sure it's water or mould resistant, that would be my only concern. What a great idea, it will make your deck feel like another whole room of your house :)

  8. This is on my to do list as well! Before H's birthday if possible! I'm going down the ugly pvc route (we are up on a hill and get alot of wind so we need a wind break as well as rain break) but I'm just going to get a couple of cheapo white curtains to hang for the decorative effect!

  9. Wow these look terrific, a lot softer than the standard bistro blinds. I say if you can find some and the price is right then go for it. Instant character to your outdoor area. Great idea.
