Party theme ideas

Thank you so much ladies for all your expert advice yesterday on my birthday party plans.

I'd love to say that I've come to a decision but I think I'm even more torn now :)

I put together a very quick moodboard of the theme ideas I have for each option.

Sit down dinner at the Sailing Club, would be natural earthy/beachy tones and textures.
I'm thinking a hessian table running over white table cloth with white river pebbles and tea light candles sprinkled down the tables and interspersed with green and white flowers. A few white paper lanterns hanging and the invitations and wooden fans by Illume Design.

Cocktail party at home, would be an elegant black, white and turquoise theme (well it is the Pantone colour of the year). I would have lace accents from the cupcake cases, lanterns and star bursts, lace doily bunting, lace wrapped vases and candle holders to the invitations and thank you present boxes, again by Illume Design. (Many of you know my wonderful friend of 25yrs Louise of Illume Design, but if you don't, then take a look at her gorgeous online shop and equally gorgeous blog )

I've had some great ideas on how I would cater the cocktail party without too much fuss and hastle and I think I would do Engracia's great suggestions of getting the teenage wait staff to help with the clean up and Lisa's suggestions of the cocktail machine (or I'd just do glass jugs of help yourself cocktails) so I'm not as daunted by the cocktail party anymore.

So that's how far I've gotten...
What do you think, which theme do you prefer???

Thanks so much again ladies, I love blogging, it's like getting all your girlfriends together in one room to help brainstorm without the logistics of babysitting, setting a date three weeks in advance, and you can do it in your PJ's :)

Have a great Friday,

  2. I really like both themes, but I think your first concern should be which option will let you enjoy the night most. It is your birthday after all, and you need to make sure you're the one having the best time! If you have it at home, I'd definitely have it catered, so you can relax and enjoy. I'd love to come over and help - pity I'm so far away! K xx

  3. They both are trulw wonderful Janette but if you forced me to pick, I like the moodboard of the first - there's something earthy and casual about it I love. Howvever, the second on is very 'party'/ Now you've confused me too! I guess it depends if you want a sit down meal or cocktail party and whether you want the party look or casual look. Love your line about blogging being so great for getting friend's opinions with ease - I totally agree! So great! Enjoy your day :)

  6. Wow, no wonder you are torn! You have two beautiful themes there, and both mood boards are amazing, you are so talented... The sailing club would be less work and organising for you, and less stress probably. The theme is stunning, and slightly more relaxed. The cocktail party theme is very classy, a little more formal, and I love the lace!
I can't wait to see what you choose.. good luck!

Oh i love parties-throwing them that is, or designing them and for little girls, how fun, i love the lanterns, the trims to me are the best- they are what people remember when they leave-and will talk about.. Have fun planning- Just became a follower- ill be back to see what you end up doing-and hopefully some pics.

  9. Hi sweet girl! I am so sorry I have been out of Blogland this week and have missed your party posts! I agree with Kerri and think that you need to fully ENJOY your night! You have a lovely hubby and the sweetest son to plan parties for (something I think you are amazing at!!!). This party should be for you and about you. I love the theme of the first one:) Wish I lived closer, I would love to help out in any way. Either way, you are going to have such a lovely party Janette. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, I have really missed you this past week:) ~ Tina xx

  10. Luv, both ideas look great!! But its YOUR 30th... and such an occasion surely isn't about decorating (and I normally need no excuse to decorate, trust me) but about you letting your hair down and celebrating -- big time!! So which one causes you the least stress and promises the best time?? Remember, after a few cocktails you won't care what colour the table runner is!!!
ps. thanks for your comment on my blog this arv, I cannot even believe that lady at the supermarket said that to you! What a biatch!!! xo

  11. do both!! I do love the cocktail theme - the colours, the lace...my 30th was at home and I enjoyed but I was pregnant and had everything done for me...it was a relaxed comfy atmosphere and when everyone left I just had to fall into bed
