House before and after - Lounge Room

I thought I'd share a before and after of our Lounge Room.

Here is bit of history of our house.....
  • We bought the daggiest little house possible almost 2 years ago.
  • The last owners loved wood and mission brown - Ahhhh!
  • The house is a 1950'2 weatherboard cottage.
  • We're not sure what we're going to do with the house long term i.e. knock down and rebuild, extend and renovate, move. So we are trying not to put too much money into the house as it could be reduced to rubble in a few years.
  • I'm really growing to love our little house now that we've put our mark on it and the dagginess is beginning to disappear (wait till you see more before and after posts, you'll see what I mean!).

So here is the lounge before and after....
There was very old carpet in the lounge, dining and hallway which we pulled up and sanded and polished the floor boards
The weird TV unit thing attached to the wall was pulled out and we had our builder man extend the wall to create a separate entry way.
The curtains came down pretty quickly as did the lime green light shades throughout the house.

So does anyone else have any house horror stories?

Have a great day,

  1. Wow Janette - what a difference!!! Your lounge room is stunning. I love the blue colour on your wall, very calming and peaceful:) I also love your shelf and your light fitting it reminds me of mother of pearl buttons which are my favourite:) I have so many horror stories but will hold back as your post is so lovely:) Thanks for sharing more of your beautiful home! Have a lovely Friday - Tina x

  2. I'm prestty lucky our place, which we bought 3.5 years ago is pretty great, I would like to renovate the kitchen and bathrooms. We are holding off at the moment as we might actually to a major reno to the back of the house including adding a pool. We are just getting ideas at the moment before approaching an architect.

  3. That looks amazing! I love your style! We just bought our first house a little over a year ago and we redid EVERYTHING. We painted, knocked down and put up walls to change the layout, put down hardwood floors and tiled. We still haven't finished all of our projects, but the house is definitely coming together. Your beautiful lounge room is making me want to get back to work, though.

  4. Wow Janette!! Your lounge room is lovely - I love your sense of style and would love to see more of your home. Love those cushions! We are still removing traces of mission brown from our place too :)

Thanks! I love reading your comments! Jxx
