Toilet training...

Here is a mummy confession:
Will has been really good with his toilet training... and it's been me that's been holding him back.
I think I get so tired of asking him so often when he needs to go and stressing that he's going to have an accident when we're out that I've taken the easy option of putting him in Pull-Ups too often and now it's confused him.

I'm going to have to go hard with the toilet training and just stick him in undies for everything but sleep time and just deal with the accidents (even when there are two accidents before 9am when you are trying to clean and tidy for your open house at 10am as happened yesterday).

I've decided I just need a fairy godmother to deal with the mess and extra washing for me, then it would be a breeze :) Oh if only.

I think toilet training would be a breeze if you had a toilet like this! :)
I'd never get him off the toilet. Image via here.

Did you have toilet training stress like me?
Please pray for patience for me. I've been muttering this prayer a lot lately with all the goings on at the moment:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.

Have a great day everyone, and thank you for the Mummy vent,

  2. I know exactly how you feel Janette - months back, we were going so well with Grace and then when Sophie came along and I was not as vigilant at asking her if she needed to go to the loo, we ended up with wet pull ups again. Now we're in knickers full time apart from naps and bedtime but Grace is still forgetful occasionally, especially when she's engrossed in an activity and tends to forget :) Fun times :)

  3. Oh J, isn't it fun! Hugh has been wearing jocks for about 1.5 months now and we just decided to go all in. He's actually been really good but he does still get busy and forget to go, so when he goes to a friends house we have still been using a pull up.
I've read that just staying at home for a week can really make it click for them, but of course that's not always possible.

  4. Oh, and a girlfriend had her daughter nearly trained but they had a baby last week and it's all gone downhill.....maybe don't put the stress onyourself just now and wait until #2 arrives?

  5. "Buzz Lightyear" used to ring my gorgeous son when he had a success. Somehow that "Buzz" always knew... Best of luck. Get used to visiting every toilet and my commiserations if they are extra exciting, like have a chain pull instead of the usual flusher. Aaah, those were the days! Just remember, in the back of your mind, not many people go to Uni wearing nappies. It works itself out in the long run. That picture still keeps me going through the many a tricky situation.

  6. oh dear, that's a stressful word(s) in our house. My son took 1yr to toilet train - yes 1yr! Took about a month to master weeing in the loo, but no.2 took a year. God it was hard... We're about to "attempt" to TT my daughter (3.5yrs), as she is autistic, we're prepared for the worst!! good luck with your son, it won't take long (hopefully!))....xxxxx

  7. Oh Janette, toilet training is hard work. The golden rule is that children need to be able to stay dry for about 2 hours to be ready. Otherwise you have to toilet time which means sending them about every 30mins. Staying home for a week is a good idea but, if he is just not ready don't feel bad about putting him in pull ups and just letting him wee in the big toilet when it suits you both. Good luck
