Perfect craft project for winter

Looking for the perfect craft project for this Aussie winter?
Maybe a fun thing to do with your kids on a rainy school holidays day?

Then look what I found over at Design*Sponge... They used to be kitch but I think they are cool - Tissue box covers!

You will find all the instructions on how to make your own Tissue Box Cover here.

The idea might give you flash backs to the 80's but when done in the right fabric I think these look awesome... better than a paper box with branding all over it. And with all the coughs and sniffles in my house at the moment I think I should maybe find the time to make one.

Have a lovely day,

  1. I think they're very sweet, and so much nicer than any of the printed boxes in the supermarket. Thanks for another thing for my project list! Nataliexx

  2. Well I was dubious Janette but I popped on over to the tutorial...and you know what...I think I might just give it a try! There's a new sewing machine here just itching for a project! So much better than the ones my mother used to have which I think is why I've avoided them for so long! You don't want to know!!

  3. You would not believe how long it took me to find a decent looking tissue box cover last year... they don't exist! I even tried Etsy!! Ended up getting a plain white Universal brand one from Myer that at full price was almost $40!!! So this tute would have come in handy!! x

  4. Thanks for sharing this Janette - I'll have to give one a go for Grace's room as the packaging is not all that attractive. I remember my Mum making my sister and I these for our bedrooms back in the 80's only mine was apricot pink with lace trim!! :)

  7. Funny I was thinking of this the other day when looking around the tissue shelves in the supermarket wondering why none of these presumably ‘smart’ marketing departments for the big names can’t actually design anything attractive to put in your home and yet it’s women that buy most of them! I have lots of fabric scraps so maybe I should make my own too!

Hope your boys are getting better! Wish this winter would go already.

  8. Thanks for sharing this Janette! I was a little worried and was having flasbacks of all that crocheted nylon ribbony stuff that they used to be made of....! Hope that your husband and little Will are feeling better and that you are getting some rest too:) Happy Tuesday my sweet friend ~ Tina xx

  9. How funny - I think I had an apricot and lace one as well when I was little. Probably had a matching lampshade as well.

It's funny how things we thought were so daggy are coming back in... and now we appreciate the idea (even if the taste has changed!).

  11. He He He, I had a flash back of the ones my nan used to make with nylon ribbon & lace, they matched the toilet roll doll & the hand towels with the crochet tops so you could hang them on a hook...these ones are much more stylish, could be a fun project!!
