My lovely neighbour down the road, Anna come by yesterday afternoon and look what she brought with her!
She knows that I have no aversion to grabbing stuff which is out on the council clean-up pile and after grabbing a few things for herself she spotted this beautiful cane chair and (is it a stool or a side table?) and she thought I'd love it for my deck. She was right!
What do you think? Pretty cool isn't it! And its in good condition. I will make a new seat cushion for it... any suggestions ladies? (my other outdoor cushions are beige and white strip linen) but I think this chair is so special it needs to have a bit more pizazz than just beige.
And it needs a touch up of white paint here and there so I think I'll just give it a good once over. What should I use? White Knight Squirtz spray can?
Also, the seat base looks like it needs some reinforcing so I might have to ask Dad what to do about that.
And don't you think it looks a bit like a royal throne? Just right for the Queen Bee amongst a house of boys - Glen, Will & Minky : )
Have a great day,
Very royal! Agree - needs a good squirt of gloss white paint & some pop of colour (ohhh maybe aqua?!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great chair and stool/table. You have a lovely neighbour Janette! I think the white spray paint would be fine for touch ups and I think you should choose a nice bright print to cover the cushion in. Something more girly so it can definately be your throne! xx
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find by your kind neighbour! I am also painting a cane chair at the moment and am using the spray can. It seems to be doing the job nicely... I agree that a contrasting floral cushion to your current beige stripe would look great and make it clear to your boys to stay clear!
ReplyDeleteDivine find! Definitely spray the chair, far too fiddly to paint with a brush. And I'm partial to some fabulous turquoise, or duck-egg blue fabric. Or maybe a nice Uncle Ralph (Lauren, of course!) paisley for a glam touch? K xx
ReplyDeleteThat's gorgeous. Can't believe it was found on the side of the road!! What good luck!
ReplyDeleteCouncil clean ups are great, although sadly in the slightly down-trodden are I currently live in, the hauls are less impressive. Broken old bed base, anyone?
Fantastic find! I really like it. You have such a great neighbour.
ReplyDeleteI love your deck too, what a great view!
If this chair were mine I'd be tempted to make a blue and white cushion for the seat, maybe using a fabric with a French design but nothing too fussy...
x
I love that to bits. I think you should make it as girly as possible (follow the Ada and Darcy lead) just for you and lovely lady guests! And if your neighbour wants to move to Canberra there's a house for sale in my street! xx
ReplyDeleteThat's a great find! A spray can would work well I think, that's what I used to re-spray my storage boxes. Cushion-wise, yes, definitely go for something bright and colourful!
ReplyDeleteoooh I would be inspired to do something a bit crazy... like maybe spray paint it a soft pink or yellow and put it in the nursery! And make a matching gorgeous floral seat cushion. The possibilities!!!
ReplyDeleteThat chair is sooo you Janette! My thoughts - spray it a gloss white and add a navy & white cushion with a nice texture for winter & definitely go the aqua as suggested previously for spring/summer. Of course this all depends on what you have decided for your outdoor curtains & you.... illy the cuddly xo
ReplyDeleteoh.. i love them.. they would be great on your deck...

Very royal indeed! I wish our council had those days, they sound like a veritable smorgasboard of goodies!
ReplyDeleteOh wow Janette! It's lovely. I wish I could come across something so wonderful in a verge collection :) Will be perfect for your deck (your decking looks fabulous by the way) - can't wait to see this chair all freshly painted with a bright new cushion xx
ReplyDeleteLove it! Can't wait to see what you do with the cushion!
